Punitha Naidu, from Rochdale, has been short-listed to the final four in a national ‘Search For a Star’ competition in conjunction with The FA Women’s Super League, ESPN, and Shout magazine to find the next generation’s junior sports TV presenter.

Punitha, aged 16, made the four-person shortlist after impressing judges in a 60-second video entry reporting on a recent sporting event.

Punitha joined the other three finalists and made her way to London on Tuesday 25 September to attend an exclusive masterclass day at the ESPN studios (images attached) where the four contenders were given top presenting tips and recorded a professional piece to camera for the final judging panel.

Punitha commented: “I have always been interested in sports journalism so I decided to base my video report on Everton v Manchester United.

"I keep mentally pinching myself that I am part of the final four and I’m so excited to tour the ESPN studios and meet inspirations like ESPN presenter Rebecca Lowe.

"Fingers crossed, this competition could lead on to my dream of reporting at the 2014 Football World Cup in Brazil.”

An elite panel of expert judges, including ESPN sports presenter Rebecca Lowe, who found fame through a talent show, will choose the final winner who will recieve the ultimate prize of presenting at The FA Women’s Super League Continental Cup Final on 10 October at Barnet FC, London, a match that will see Arsenal Ladies go head-to-head with Birmingham City Ladies.

Rebecca Lowe, ESPN broadcaster, commented: “This is a really exciting and rare opportunity for young stars to get involved and have a go at being a real life sports presenter.

"I was given my big break through a similar competition and it shows just what hard work and determination can do.”

Kelly Simmons, Head of National Game at The FA, comments: “The FA is thrilled to be working with ESPN to find a budding sports presenter. It’s so important that we build on the Olympic legacy to help discover and support the next generation of sports stars both on and off the pitch.”
