Illegal tobacco and vodka seized
Date published: 25 September 2012
Illegal tobacco and vodka with a combined value of over £600 have been seized from a Rochdale store in an operation mounted by the council’s Public Protection service.
A total of 1.5kg of loose tobacco and 18 litres of vodka were confiscated when trading standards visited the shop earlier this month in response to reports of illegal sales.
Some of the tobacco is believed to be of a fake brand while other tobacco and the alcohol were falsely labelled in a suspected attempt to avoid customs duty.
The Public Protection service has now mounted an investigation into the store.
