Rochdale chef squares up for local food cook off
Date published: 25 September 2012
Rochdale Chef Andrew Nutter is getting ready to rumble as he prepares to be pitted against Salford’s Robert Owen Brown in a ‘Proper Local Food Cook Off’ featuring food including scotch eggs and pies from Rochdale’s Mrs Love-itts, as part of this year’s Food and Drink Festival.
In the red corner will be Andrew Nutter of Nutter’s in Rochdale, and in the blue corner, Mark Addy’s Robert Owen Brown. Matched pound for pound in their love for local sustainable food, the two will take to the stage in Albert Square on 28 September and fight to produce the best dish from a selection of locally produced ingredients.
The ingredients will be supplied by Greater Manchester rural producers who are showcasing their wares throughout the day as part of Visit Manchester’s ‘Proper Local Food Day’.
The event aims to celebrate the fantastic food and drink producers that Greater Manchester has to offer. Included on the day will be sausages from Bobby’s Bangers in Oldham, Bury Black Pudding, Chocolate from Ramsbottom’s Chocolate Café, Dunham Massey Apple Juice and award winning pork pies from Bradley’s Bakery in Ashton Under Lyne.
Siobhan Hanley Festival Director comments: “This should be a fantastic afternoon with some produce that Greater Manchester should be proud of and two charismatic chefs who will fight to the last to create the best dish which will be judged by the audience.”
Paul Simpson from Visit Manchester adds: “We have a plethora of impressive producers within the boroughs of Greater Manchester and this event allows us to showcase them to the foodies from across the region that will be visiting the festival.”
