Courtney’s got talent in the classroom as well as on stage!

Date published: 21 September 2012

15 year old Courtney Cecere, the Rochdale’s Got Talent finalist, has shown that she’s got what it takes to succeed in the classroom as well as being a talented and accomplished singer on stage.

Courtney, a pupil at Kingsway Park High School, has just passed her music exams at the London College of Music’s level 8, the highest grade that can be achieved and something not normally entered for until students are aged 18. Courtney is the first ever pupil at Kingsway to achieve this distinction.

The head of Kingsway’s Music and Media Department, Carl Eden told Rochdale Online that he now plans to enter Courtney for the diploma course. This would give Courtney the Dip LCM, a valuable qualification enabling her to teach singing to others.

Mr Eden said: “We are thrilled to bits for Courtney. She has worked to very hard for this and has a lovely voice but these qualifications call for the study of music in a more structured and systematic way.

“It is rather unusual to leave school with letters already after your name. This has brought prestige not just to Courtney but also to the Department and the school. We are all very proud of her.”

Mr Eden told us that having a gifted pupil means that you have to encourage them to develop their skills and talents yet not push them too far too early. He said that this could sometimes be “a fine balance”.

In Courtney’s case this has certainly paid off and Rochdale Online would wish to extend our warmest and most sincere congratulations.
