Parents from Rochdale have won Recycle for Greater Manchester’s real nappy competition and are now champions of re-usable nappies. The winning residents received a birth to potty kit, which will save a lot of money on the cost of disposables.
The free prize draw was open to Greater Manchester residents who had a child under six months old or were expecting.
Recycle for Greater Manchester is encouraging new and expectant parents to consider using real nappies as the cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative to disposables.
You too could be left nappy happy, saving up to £500 against the cost of using disposables. Real nappies are real easy to use, on the contrary to the previous Terry Squares.
Over 164 million disposable nappies are being thrown away in Greater Manchester every year and the aim is to reduce this amount.
Real Nappy week might have ended, but the campaign to encourage more parents to switch and see the benefits of real nappies is by no means over.
Recycle for Greater Manchester want real nappies to stretch further without stretching people’s budget.
Councillor Neil Swannick, Chairman of Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA), said: “It is fantastic to see parents switching to real nappies; they are good for your pocket and the environment. We aim to help make it easy for people to reduce, re-use and recycle and we really appreciate the support from Greater Manchester residents to help achieve our aim of zero waste to landfill.”
Louise Lyons, who won the competition, said: “I was thrilled to win the nappy prize as I never win anything.
"I use cloth nappies because it’s cheaper, greener and prettier. I hate the thought of all those nappies going to landfill so I try to do my bit.”
