Gifted Rochdale Sixth Form College students visit Oxbridge Universities

Date published: 18 September 2012

A group of 12 gifted and talented Year 12 students from Rochdale Sixth Form College recently visited the universities of Oxford and Cambridge to find out more about how to apply to study at these prestigious institutions.

Centred on the Cambridge University Open Day, staff and students embarked on the two day trip to get an insight into life at two of the most well-respected university institutions in the UK. As well as attending lectures to find out more about the admissions procedure and the courses on offer, the group were also treated to a tour of Cambridge itself.

Paul Haworth, English teacher at Rochdale Sixth Form College, comments: “Each and every student found this trip invaluable, particularly as we’re nearing the university application deadline. This was a great way to show our students that, with a lot of hard work and commitment to excelling in their A Level exams, studying at a prestigious university like Cambridge or Oxford is within their reach.”

Rochdale Sixth Form College student Courtney Cotton, who is hoping to go on to study theology at university, comments: “After visiting the Colleges and speaking to the tutors, applying to study at Oxbridge doesn’t feel as daunting as it did before.”
