Appeal for witnesses after boat is vandalised

Date published: 12 September 2012

A Nottinghamshire couple are appealing for witnesses after their boat was vandalised on the Rochdale Canal in Littleborough last weekend.

Ann Marie Poole and her husband are travelling along the canals of the UK at weekends. They moor up near train stations at the end of the weekend and travel back to their home in Creswell, near Worksop, Nottinghamshire.

A few weeks ago they arrived in Littleborough had a walk around and paid a visit to the town. They moored the boat by the lock opposite the train station as they like to have the boat in view of the public and not hidden away.

Last Monday they received a call from the Canal and River Trust to say that the boat had been vandalised.

Mr Poole drove the 65 miles back to Littleborough and found that the canopy was pulled open, the fasteners were broken and the door was kicked in.

A lot of items were taken, including:

  • Three fishing rods and tackle
  • Toolbox and tools
  • Picnic basket, plates, cups, wine, glasses and cutlery
  • Alcoholic drinks - Strongbow, Fosters and Brandy
  • Radio
  • BBQ

The boat keys were also taken that were hidden inside the cabin therefore they cannot move the boat without them. They are also worried that whoever broke into the boat will still have the keys and could return to do more damage.

If you have any information regarding this incident, please email info@rochdaleonline.co.uk and we will pass it on to Mr and Mrs Poole.
