Megan’s magic carpet ride

Megan Hall
Megan Hall, 18, has snubbed university in favour of an apprenticeship with Penthouse Carpets in Rochdale.
After successfully completing her A Levels at Rochdale Sixth Form College, Megan decided not to apply for university as she was keen to get hands on experience with employers and get herself on the career ladder. Instead of the traditional Higher Education route, Megan chose to do a Business Administration Apprenticeship (Level 2) with Hopwood Hall College and secured a job that suits her skills.
Commenting on her new position, Megan says, “The apprenticeship route is especially suited to me as I'm practical, keen to learn, enjoy earning money and know that I can get qualified at the same time".
Staff at Penthouse Carpets are thrilled with their new recruit and are pleased to have found her.
It was after an unsuccessful recruitment exercise for a Sales Office Clerk that Jane Buck, the company’s HR Manager, contacted Hopwood Hall College to explore the option of recruiting an apprentice.
Jane is extremely pleased with the decision and said: “The service provided by Training @ Hopwood was excellent and within a matter of hours of meeting them we had received the details of several suitable candidates.
"Later that week we met with Megan and, following that initial meeting, we knew that she would be a perfect fit for the role.
"Megan is bright, full of enthusiasm and has an excellent work ethic - she has fitted in perfectly with the rest of the team.”
Megan has beensupported by the apprenticeship team at Hopwood - from initial advice and guidance to being linked to suitable local employers. She is now several weeks into her training and is enjoying meeting new people and she especially enjoys the fact that she is treated as an adult with support from both work and the College.
