New retail park postponed
Date published: 12 September 2012
The development of a new retail park in Rochdale has been postponed after planners routed a new ring road through the site
Peter Rowlinson, Head of Planning and Regulation at Rochdale Borough Council, said:
"We are carrying out a traffic modelling exercise which is looking at four options for the road scale and alignment. The four options will be the subject of public consultation, probably during October."
Leeds-based Town Centre Securities said that, despite gaining planning consent for its retail park in Rochdale, it had been unable to bring the scheme forward due to Rochdale Council proposing a ring road extension through the site.
The scheme is a joint venture between TCS and Metric Property Investments.
TSC said alternative routes were now being considered by the council which it hoped would resolve the situation.
It said there were already a number of tenants lined up to occupy the site, which has the potential to create an estimated 200 jobs.
Preparatory and demolition work has already begun on site and former MFI Focus and Wyndsors World of Shoes units have been torn down.
