Bright spark embarks on new apprenticeship scheme

Date published: 12 September 2012

A young man from Rochdale took his first steps towards becoming a future engineer on Monday after enjoying his first day as a new apprentice.

Matthew Micklethwaite from Kingsway, joined other trainees from across the North West, to embark on the four-year apprenticeship scheme, that will see them train to work on the region’s local electricity network.

Now in its fifth year, the apprenticeship scheme is aimed at people looking to develop and begin a career in the electricity industry and to help Electricity North West power the region for years to come. Successful completion of the training will lead to jobs as overhead linespeople, jointers or fitters working to maintain and repair the electricity network.

Matthew, 19, said: “I found out about Electricity North West’s apprenticeship scheme through my friend, who has completed the course and said great things about it and I'm really looking forward to getting started."
