£290,000 expenses claimed by our MPs
Date published: 07 September 2012
Local MPs claimed close to £290,000 in expenses in just over a year, it has been revealed.
New figures from the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA), set up after the expenses scandal, detail MPs’ claims from April 2011 to the end of May, 2012.
The figures show Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk submitted claims of £149,757.21, Heywood & Middleton MP Jim Dobbin £138,250.71.
The majority of the money is for staffing costs: £108,531.87 for Mr Danczuk and £115,534.51 for Mr Dobbin.
Thousands of pounds worth of bills were also submitted for running constituency offices. The remainder is claimed for London rents and travel to and from the constituency.
