Junior Wardens seek a safe place to play

RBH Junior Wardens on site at Greave playground
RBH’s Junior Wardens are joining people from Greave to campaign for improvements to be made to a playground that could do with a little more than just a lick of paint to bring a community closer together.
Based on RBH estates across the borough Junior Wardens are young people aged between 8 – 12 yrs who care passionately about their environment and communities. They believe that all young people should have safe and fun areas to play, and that young people should respect those facilities.
UK food brand, Flora, are offering just one lucky area a ‘Playground Makeover’ - the winning play area could land a £30,000 revamp if it receives enough votes. As the Flora campaign states; ‘it could be monkey bars, gardens, giant snakes and ladders and much more in between’ - but whatever it is, they’re ready to transform the tarmac at the heart of someone’s local area.
The project will allow for the replacement of old, worn and damaged equipment, providing a fantastic resource to the Greave community which serves over 500 family houses. But it is not just about looking great and having the most modern of playground facilities – the Wardens want children to have a safe and secure place where they can have fun!
Junior Warden, Jay–Jay explains why they are supporting this campaign: “I have a new park near me, but this is the only play area for children in this area, and it isn’t much fun! But if they had some new equipment, I am sure lots more families would use this area.”
The play park has been shortlisted as one of 36 playgrounds across the UK in a competition run by Flora. Flora and “green-hearted” charity Groundwork will work with the winning playground to determine how the cash reward will be spent. This will include liaising with the Local Authority, the landowner and community groups, once the winner has been announced.
