Shooting: Man arrested

Date published: 30 August 2012

A man has been arrested after a suspected armed robber was dropped off at a Greater Manchester hospital with gunshot wounds.

Anthony Morrison, 33, was dropped off at North Manchester General Hospital on Sunday after being shot in the chest, police said.

A 24-year-old man from Middleton has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

Mr Morrison is currently in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

He was driven to the hospital in what is believed to be a dark BMW at 21:30 BST, which then drove off towards the Crumpsall area.

Mr Morrison had flown in to Manchester Airport from Amsterdam on 6 July but fled from police who were at the airport to arrest him in connection with a robbery in Oldham in October 2011.

Police said he had been arrested on suspicion of robbery following a raid at an Asda store.

Det Insp Terry Crompton said police were continuing to investigate the shooting.

"The fact we have made an arrest in connection with the shooting does not mean the investigation stops here.

"Our inquiries are now progressing well and we are confident that we will be able to establish the full circumstances of what happened."
