St Andrew's, Dearnley

Date published: 27 August 2012

Our youth group STANLEY will meet in Church at 6.00pm on Sunday, September 2, while on Monday evening, also in the parish room, our recently-formed branch of the Mothers' Union will have its monthly get-together.

We are still looking for volunteers please for the Foodbank Stall which will be open from 10.00am to noon this coming Saturday, September 1, as part of the Rochdale Feel-Good Festival.

Last Sunday at St Andrew's, the parish church of Dearnley and Smithy Bridge, we remembered in prayer young people receiving examination results; the sick; the recently departed; and those members of the congregation and parish who passed away during the corresponding week in previous years.

As children head back to school and summer holidays 2012 for many people are but a happy memory, we move towards that period of the year when many of our major services and social events start to hit the calendar.

We have three in September:

  • A fund-raising coffee morning on Saturday the 15;
  • The Deanery Songs of Praise which will take place at St Andrew's on Sunday the 16 (3pm);
  • A musical evening in Church on Saturday, the 29 featuring the popular Wigan-based band 'Gifted' with their presentation of 'Songs from the Shows';

Tickets for this will be on sale soon, see Sheila, priced at £8 adults and £4 children, including chilli-con-carne supper.

We have our usual services on Sunday, Eucharist at 8.00am and Sung Eucharist at 10.00am.

Parish rota: lay assistants, S Carmichael, C Cook; readers, K Jones, S Jones; Intercessions, S Knight; sidespersons, P Shrigley, B Kelly; refreshments, Ada, Becky, Pam P.
