Sewage pipe can’t cope
Date published: 28 August 2012
An overwhelmed sewage main pipe - Cedar Lane, at the junction of the A663 Shaw Road in Newhey - has led to the closure of a road in Rochdale for four weeks.
United Utilities said the foul water main can’t cope in torrential rain causes "flooding" and spills into the River Beal.
Widespread torrential downpours battered parts of Greater Manchester over the weekend yesterday up to an inch of rain falling in some places.
The water firm’s engineers will start inspections on the regional network ahead of the main works to upsize the pipes.
Council highway engineers said the road would remain closed for four weeks starting on September10.
A fully signed diversion route will be in place.
