Closure of Bury New Road (A58), Heywood
Date published: 21 August 2012
The A58 Bury New Road between Heywood and the junction with the M66 will be closed from Wednesday (22 August) morning for around 2 weeks for essential repairs with diversions in place.
Recently a partial collapse of the carriageway was discovered on Bury New Road (A58), Heywood at Prettywood and as a consequence temporary signals have been in place.
Investigations into the cause of the collapse have established it is because of a collapsed sewer and fresh water leak under the carriageway. In order to fully assess the damage to the carriageway and to undertake the necessary repair work we have no option but to implement an emergency road closure in the early hours of Wednesday 22 August 2012.
It is anticipated that the closure will be required for approximately two weeks. During this period the following diversions will be in place:
West Bound/Bury Bound Diversion
Bridge St to Pilsworth Road, Moss Hall Road, Heap Brow & Bury New Road
East Bound/Rochdale Bound Diversion
Bury New Road, Heap Brow, Bury Old Road & Bury Street
