Fire involving lorry trailer on M62 motorway
Date published: 20 August 2012
At 3:30am on 18 August two engines, from Heywood and Blackley fire stations, were called to a lorry on fire on the M62 motorway between junctions 21 and 22.
When they arrived the crews found a fire involving a refrigerated HGV trailer, which they extinguished using hosereels while wearing breathing apparatus. The crews also used ladders to access the trailer and a thermal imaging camera to ensure the spread of the fire.
The fire is thought to have started when sparks from a tyre which had burst spread to the trailer.
