UNICEF Day for Change

Tom, Lauren, Jeska, Cobey, Lauren and Megan completely organised, with very little help, a ‘UNICEF Day for Change’ to raise money for the UNICEF Uganda sports programme.

With the help of Mrs Denham, teaching assistant they organised a PowerPoint assembly, non-uniform day coming to school in the colours of the Ugandan Flag – red, yellow and black and held a Book and DVD Bring & Buy sale.

They asked the children in school to collect 1ps and 2ps to fill a map outline of Uganda on the Hall floor. They then produced posters to promote their fundraising day.

They set themselves a target of £200 but smashed that by raising £373.

Awarded IQM (Inclusion Quality Mark)

Healey has been awarded the IQM (Inclusion Quality Mark).

Educational inclusion is about equal opportunities for all pupils, whatever their age, gender, ethnicity, attainment and background. It pays particular attention to the provision made for, and the achievement of, different groups of pupils within a school.

An educationally inclusive school is one in which the teaching and learning, achievements, attitudes and well-being of every young person matters.

We are the first primary school in Rochdale to achieve the IQM, it is a challenging audit and assessment of inclusive practice, but something which underpins our approach recognising the work we do in school with all pupils – and their parents.

The IQM requires a fully consolidated approach from staff, parents, pupils and governors.

Headteacher, Susan Taylor siad: "I cannot tell you how overjoyed we were to be awarded the accreditation. We were presented with the plaque (which is now in our splendid new entrance area!) at an Awards Ceremony held at The Institute of Directors Building, Pall Mall, London on 24 April and I was honoured to be able to go down with my deputy Mrs Whitworth and the Inclusion Manager Mrs Ainley."
