Organisers of the Rugby League World Cup 2013 have announced that the official mascot for the tournament will be designed by one lucky fan through a nationwide competition. The competition will be promoted by the 23 hosts, and in Rochdale we are hoping to find the eventual winner.
Each RLWC2103 host will nominate a design from their area to go forward to the final judging panel. Then the best four designs will be chosen and displayed on the RLWC2013 website. The public will then help to choose the winner with an online vote.
The eventual winner’s creation will be brought to life by a specially-recruited graphic designer whose experience includes working with Disney.
The closing date for entries will be Friday June 29 this year, with the official launch scheduled for October 2012.
Mark Widdup, Service Director at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “We’re proud to be hosting the Rugby League World Cup here in Rochdale and are encouraging as many young people as possible to submit a design. Just imagine the feeling of walking out with the teams before the Rugby League World Cup Final 2013 with the eyes of the world focusing on you and the mascot you brought to life!”
Mark Foster, RLWC2013 Marketing Manager, said: “The Rugby League World Cup will be the major global sporting event of 2013 and will provide a number of life-changing opportunities for young people. In the host countries of England, Wales, France and Ireland the first stage of this is to get involved in the design of our official mascot for the tournament.”
