I know when to ask for help and who to ask for help from.
We strive to instil within the children a sense of belonging within a range of communities and for them to play an active role as members of society.
Lenten Programme:
As part of our Lenten programme we invited children and staff to take part in a modest lunch of rice and a slice of bread followed by a drink of water to raise money for CAFOD.
Many volunteers from all classes participated and have helped to raise money for CAFOD which will help to provide clean water and emergency food aid for some of the poorest people in countries all over the world.
Governors:
There will be a full Governors meeting 3pm, Tuesday 13 March.
Litter Campaign:
Crescent Radio will be doing a special focus on keep Milkstone and Deeplish clean and tidy.
Farm Visit:
As part of their Environmental Topic, classes F2 and Rec/1 went on a visit to Lancaster Farm, Middleton on Wednesday (7 March). They travelled by train from Rochdale to Middleton where they were met by Farmer Dave who introduced the children to his animals.
After feeding the hens and turkeys, they were shown a pig and her piglets, a wild boar, pigmy goats and Bambi the elk. They then visited the donkeys before catching the train back to Rochdale.
Mural Painting:
Thank you to all parents who have given their time and energy in painting some lovely murals for our school hall.
Fair Trade awareness:
On Thursday (8 March), class 5 held a sale of chocolate and bananas produced in fair trade countries as part of their work on Fair Trade.
Because of demand another sale will be held on Monday 12 March.
The sale is not for profit, funds to go to Fair Trade and CAFOD for farmers in developing countries.
Mother’s Day Assembly:
Class 1 will hold a Mother’s Day assembly in the hall 9am on Tuesday13 March all parents welcome.
Poem for Mother’s Day:
Councillor Mohammed Zaman has organised a poetry competition for children in years 3 to 6. Children in the above year groups are invited to take part in a competition to write a short poem about their mothers. Each poem should be between 50 and 100 words in English.
The deadline for submission of poems is 10am on Thursday 15th March. All entrants must write their name, year group and name of school on the back page of their poem.
Winners will be selected by an independent panel. All winners will be invited to a Mothers Day event at Deeplish Community Centre on Sunday 18 March to receive their prizes and invited to Crescent Radio to read out their poems in a live programme at later date.
Sports:
Football
Years 3 and 4 played in an all schools football tournament on Thursday 1 March. We took 3rd place out of 9. Well done team.
Rugby
Our Rugby team won their match on Monday (5 March) and go through to represent Rochdale in the mini Tag Rugby games to be held at Broughton Park in July.
Other Business:
Dinner money payment card
You will by now have received a school meal payment record card. The card is your proof of payment so please ensure you present it with your payment in order to have it signed and dated.
Medical consent
If your child requires medication during school hours, please ensure you sign a medical consent form at the office when you hand in the medicines otherwise the first aid officer cannot administer them.

The Golden Book awards are for children have tried their best in all areas with politeness and respect.

Certificate Awards:
Awards for last week went to Class 2 for highest attendance and Class 4 for good behaviour in and around the school.
