Greater Manchester Police are warning motorists about the dangers of drink driving following their Christmas drink driving campaign.
7,500 people were breath tested across Greater Manchester. A total of 413 people were arrested including 18 people from Rochdale.
The Force’s Christmas drink driving campaign, ran from 1 to 31 December 2010.
Officers are now issuing a warning to those who drive the morning after a night of drinking, as 18 per cent of positive breath tests taken by officers were logged between 7am and midday during the campaign.
Assistant Chief Constable Neil Wain said: “This year we have used a targeted approach to tackle drink driving. For the first time we have used roadside operations in areas that have had a high number of drink driving incidents in the past.
“We have been concentrating on 'the morning after' issue very heavily during this year's drink-drive campaign and I am disappointed to see that such a large amount of people are still driving when they are over the limit in the morning. I cannot stress how important it is to consider the morning after and arrange alternative transport. For the sake of a bus or train fare, people’s lives are being put at risk.”
