Actress asks fundraisers to get on their bikes for charity challenge

EastEnders star Rita Simons has urged fundraisers in the North West to get on their bikes for the (Royal National Institute for Deaf People) RNID and raise vital funds for the deaf and hard of hearing – while visiting two of the world’s most glamorous cities.

The actress has called on adventurous people to sign up to the RNID’s London to Paris charity cycle and enjoy a challenge-of-a-lifetime while raising money for a cause close to her heart.

Mum-of-two Rita, who plays Roxy Mitchell in the BBC soap, is a passionate supporter of RNID as her four-year-old daughter Maiya is deaf and wears hearing aids to help enhance her hearing.

Ms Simons said: "By the time we reach 50, over 40% of us will experience some level of hearing loss, which happens naturally as we get older but it is also something which affects younger people too.

“Hearing loss can have a profound impact on everyday lives, but it is reassuring to know RNID is on hand to provide crucial information and support.

"By signing up for RNID’s London to Paris charity cycle you’ll not only have an adventure of a lifetime but you’ll also be taking steps to raise vital funds for RNID’s campaigning work and range of services around the country."

Prospective fundraisers can claim a place in RNID’s team for the 24 – 27 June or 9 – 12 September 2011events by paying a registration fee of £150 and raising a sponsorship pledge of £1,200.

Register your place today for the special discounted rate of only £99 by calling 0845 634 0687 or emailing events@rnid.org.uk. More information can be found at www.rnid.org.uk/pariscycle

If you are concerned that you have a hearing loss, you can call RNID’s simple, confidential, five-minute telephone hearing check on 0845 600 5555 from a landline and get an indication of your level of hearing. Taking the check for both your ears could be your first step along the road to hearing conversations with your family and friends more clearly.
