A 24-year-old from Rochdale who lost 11 stone, overcame the depression caused by years of bullying and has had to deal with epilepsy since childhood has won a national award for her tremendous achievements.

Steph Brown from was named as winner of the Fitness First New You Achievement Awards at the Waldorf Hotel in London.

Held annually to celebrate the outstanding health and fitness achievements of its members, the winners and finalists of each of the four award categories have battled against significant emotional as well as physical challenges to reach the finals.

An overjoyed Ms Brown said she was delighted to have been recognised for her achievements.

“I’m just so delighted to have won. It’s been a tough journey but to win this is just awesome.’’

Her first visits to the gym with personal trainer Dean Wharmby consisted of little more than 15 minutes walking on the treadmill. Ms Brown admits she was physically and mentally in a poor state and says Fitness First has really helped turn her life around.
