Cardiology review to take place in March

Date published: 11 January 2011

A review of cardiology services for the North East sector of Greater Manchester, which includes the Rochdale Infirmary, will take place in March this year.

Dr Roger Boyle CBE, National Director for Heart Disease and Stroke for the Department of Health will be supported by his highly trained team who will report their finding and any recommendations by early April 2011 to Sir Jonathan Asbridge and the joint chief executives of the northeast sector.

The review aims to check that what was approved when Healthy Futures started is still relevant today because services have moved on since the initial plans were approved.

Sir Jonathan Asbridge said: “The NCAT report recommended a review of cardiology services across the north east sector of Greater Manchester, they recognised that since the original plans for Healthy Futures were drawn up in 2005 that Cardiology services have substantially advanced, and that a review was required to ensure future services meet the local northeast sector needs.”

“I have asked Dr Boyle and his team if they will meet directly with doctors and patients from across the northeast sector which he has agreed too. Once we have received Dr Boyle and his team findings and recommendations, Healthy Futures will lead the process of consultation to ensure any proposals meet the four new tests on reconfiguration laid down by the Secretary of State in July 2010.”
