Teen attacked as robbers demand Christmas presents

Date published: 29 December 2010

A teenage boy was punched in the face as robbers burst into a Middleton house demanding Christmas presents.

At about 4.50pm on Christmas Eve (Friday 24 December 2010), the two offenders went into the house on Grimshaw Lane after smashing the door chain.

The offenders demanded Christmas presents. The victims inside, two boys aged 16 and 17 and a 19-year-old man, said they did not know who they were.

They then punched the 17-year-old boy in the face a number of times. He fell to the floor and was then kicked and punched to his head and body.

The 19-year-old man then went to intervene and he was punched in the face.

During the struggle, the offenders stole cash and a mobile phone. They also made off with a Playstation 3 and an Xbox console, none of which were wrapped.

One of the offenders is described as being white, about 5ft 8in tall, of medium build and about 20 years old. He was wearing a black balaclava and dark clothing.

His accomplice was about 5ft 6in tall, of slim build and also wearing a black balaclava and dark clothing.

Detective Constable Chris Whalley said: "This was a horrendous attack that these teenagers had to endure, just as they were getting ready for Christmas.

"We are clearly trying to trace dangerous robbers who are willing to use violence to get what they want. We are carrying out a number of inquiries.

"However, any witnesses who may have seen the offenders in the area should get in touch. If anyone has also been offered an Xbox or Playstation around the Middleton area they should do the right thing and call us."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4646 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
