Four abandoned cats
Date published: 27 December 2010
Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary is sought out by people wanting animals to receive our care from far and wide. There are times when animals are moved up to 100 miles. Bleakholt has built up a reputation of being willing to accept the more difficult and often more expensive cases.
One recent result of this phenomenon is the case of four cats that were brought to Bleakholt from Liverpool. As Bleakholt is not far from the Yorkshire border this was a long way for the cats to be brought.
The four cats concerned were abandoned in two cat carriers on the road leading to Bleakholt. They were immediately brought in to the warm. When the cats were removed from the carriers a note was found that reads:
Please help these poor cats. I am a student at Liverpool Uni—these poor cats were destined to be bait for Greyhounds. LIVE BAIT! On Morecambe beach.
This is horrific but not new to us. There are people out there who consider it to be ‘good sport’ to set animals on each other for their sick amusement.
All four cats are in good physical health but at least one of them is extremely nervous. This is hardly surprising when considered how they came to us and the type of person that will have had the cats.
The staff have named these cats Holly Berry, Snowflake, Tinsel and Tiny Tim.
We very strongly believe that these cats must have been stolen for the purpose of being killed by the Greyhounds and would like to find their real owners. Other than being frightened the cats are in good health and must have been owned by people who cared for them before being stolen. Anyone who feels that any of these cats might be theirs can contact the Sanctuary and we will discuss their return.
We would also be interested in hearing from anyone who can offer these cats a home in case we cannot find their owners. Ideally this would be a home that could take all four cats.
Bleakholt can be contacted at neil@bleakholt.org or on 08442 570411 during office hours.
If anyone has information regarding who was planning to kill these cats we would also like to know. The identities of any informants will be kept private and we will also protect the identity of the person who brought the cats to us if we come across their details in our investigation.
