Milnrow Cricket Club was filled to capacity on Sunday 19 December for the Annual Christmas Concert featuring the Co-operative Milnrow Band.

The band under the direction of Associate Conductor Mark Peacock produced a sparkling performance with a programme full of music which from the first item "Christmas Joy" to the last "Jingle Bells" fostered the idea that the Christmas festivities were well and truly under way.

Other items such as "Christmas Festival"," Spirit of Christmas", "Christmas Song", "Christmas Swingalong" "12 Days of Christmas" and a selection of well known carols, emphasised the festive feel.

"Away in a Manger" highlighted the talents of Donna Towse (Principal Cornet) and the all girl tenor horn section produced a stunning "trio" performance of "Its the most wonderful time of the year".

Special guest for the evening Peter Bates, North West Area Brass Bands Association Chairman, was introduced by band President Ken Watts.

On behalf of the NWABBA and the band, Mr Bates presented surprise certificate awards to Val and Jim Fitton for 25 years service to brass banding -served entirely with Milnrow.

The Band’s President Ken Watts, said: “Val has been secretary and general factotum for many years and Jim is an ex player currently serving as band Chairman, the popular couple received a standing ovation.”

Mr Watts added: “Officials, Committee and members of the Co-operative Milnrow Band wish all supporters and friends good wishes for Christmas and all the best for a prosperous, healthy and happy 2011.”
