Beat the rush and get your ‘igo’ now

A igo public transport travel pass
Young people are being urged to apply for their new igo public transport travel pass now – and get their hands on an introductory offers pack – before the pass becomes compulsory next year.
Anyone aged 11 to 16 who lives in or attends school in Greater Manchester is eligible for an igo, a new look photo ID travel pass which entitles the holder to claim the concessionary fare on the region’s buses.
Councillor Keith Whitmore, Chairman of Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority’s (GMITA) Policy and Resources Committee, said: “The igo launched in September and, while not currently compulsory, from 16 May next year (2011) anyone aged 11 to 16 will have to show their igo to claim the concessionary fare.
“As an introductory offer, all eligible applicants who apply for an igo before May will receive a great igo pack, valued at around £60 and offering a range of discounts and offers for local entertainment venues.
“System One Travelcards are also offering young people who apply for an igo before 31 January a money saving voucher, providing £3 off a weekly ticket and £5 off a monthly ticket.
“So, with two great offers available for a limited time only, I would urge anyone who is eligible for a travel pass to beat the rush and apply for their igo now.”
While it has not previously been mandatory to provide ID when claiming the concessionary fare, passengers who wished to have proof of their age and therefore their eligibility could apply to GMPTE for a ‘16 and Under’ ID card. This has been replaced by the igo.
