Pupils from Kingsway Park High School at the Regional STEM Design and Technology Challenge
Students at Kingsway Park High School are all smiles – not just because it is Christmas, but because they have won two awards.
On Friday 10 December students took part in the Regional Lego League challenge final held at Middleton CLC.
The challenge is an international one that comprises of a robot challenge, a presentation, a technical award and team work awards.
Although the school didn’t win the competition overall, their team of 10 students from year 8 and 9 won the 'Technical Award' for their technical approach to the challenge.
On Monday 13 December, two of the school’s year 9 students represented Rochdale schools in the Regional STEM Design and Technology Challenge which was held at The Manchester College.
Pupils from schools from around the North West who had won their local challenges in June competed against each other in a robotic 'Search and Find' challenge.
The students had to design and build a robot from lego and then program it to complete a number of challenges. They came second.
Steve Taylor, curriculum leader of Resistant Materials and Graphics at Kingsway Park High School, said: “The students worked fantastically throughout the day, coming second overall, coming away with a lovely glass trophy each.”
