Memory Wellbeing Cafes are now running in Rochdale.
The much needed service is the result of two years of work.
Tania Taylor, Locality Development Worker, Alzheimer's Society, said:”This is a really exciting new service for people living with Dementia and their friends and family, the cafes are also open to any members of the public who are interested in finding out more about dementia. Dementia awareness within the community is low and these cafes are a step forward in raising dementia awareness in the borough of Rochdale.”
Ms Taylor added: “I have made links with Ring and Ride and the Volunteer Driver Scheme so if a service user is worried about transport to a café they can discuss that with me and I will assist them with arranging transport to and from the venues.
“I would also ask that all possible users of the Memory Wellbeing Cafes contact me directly on 01706 926666 to let me know of their attendance so that I am able to arrange the right amount of volunteers for the café at each session. This will also enable service users to feel more comfortable knowing that a member of staff they have already spoke with will be at the cafes. Due to the daunting prospect of entering a new group I will also be at the entrance of the buildings to meet and greet those who attend.”
Ms Taylor, added: “I am very happy to announce that Candy James and Dr Datta Consultant Psychiatrist for Older People from Watergrove Memory Clinic will be attending the Milnrow Wellbeing Café on Tuesday 1 February.”
