On Wednesday 8 December it was the annual Christmas lecture at the University of Manchester. This year 10R went as they had worked very hard all term. The topic this year was premature babies and their survival. The group found it very interesting although a little too hard with the depth of science at times. Most of the group were pleased with the improved success rate but some were 'put off' as it explained a little too much about what could go wrong when having a baby premature.
It was the Lower Prep trip to the pantomime 'Beauty and the Beast' at the new Middleton Arena. After a morning disco the Year 1 and 2 pupils were set for a good day of screaming! At first it took a while for them to warm up their voices but Billy and his 'Mother' Dotty soon had us all in stitches with their very amusing jokes and shouting in true panto style 'It's behind you'! Even Zain was laughing as Billy accidentally stuck his finger up the professors nose and tried to mimic the action with Mrs Syddall. The songs were very good and Alfie was singing along with most of them. The cast all were very good but the pupils mainly cheered for Ollie, a Year 9 pupil who was a dancer on the stage. The best part if you ask the pupils was the ice cream at the interval, of course!
The Nursery and Reception classes enjoyed their Jabber Jack party and arrived at school in Fancy Dress. There was not a seat to be found for the Lower Prep performance of 'Christmas Around the World'. The audience was thoroughly entertained. This was followed by the Friends of Beech House Winter Fayre. Many thanks to the Year 11 and Year 10 pupils who manned the stalls. Over £600 was raised on the day.
The Upper Prep choir amused the residents of the Mews with their carol singing. Their visit was much appreciated.
