Following on from the success of their 125th anniversary year fundraising event in support of Springhill Hospice, the staff of Marks & Spencer, Rochdale, decided to repeat their efforts with the Hospice once again being chosen as beneficiary.
The fundraising endeavours were all part of the Marks & Spencer countrywide initiative to raise £1 million in 100 days. Rochdale store’s target was £1000 and staff were incredibly proud to be able to hand over to Springhill Hospice a staggering £2,500 on a recent visit.
This is the second time in as many years that the M & S staff at Rochdale have more than doubled their original targets for the Hospice.
Sarah Kaye, of M & S, Rochdale, said: “We had raffles in store, held a Coffee Morning at the Hospice, put Hospice collection tins on all till points and in our staff catering unit and Hospice staff came in one weekend to do a bucket collection. Our staff have held a buffet lunch for colleagues with all proceeds going to the charity and we held an auction of high priced items donated by staff and by Marks and Spencer. We even ran our own lottery with 10 prizes of an hour off and a top prize of a day off.”
Dorothy Swire, Income Services Manager for Springhill Hospice, said: “As a former M & S employee myself it was wonderful to be able to work alongside some of my former colleagues and help them to achieve such a marvelous result. On behalf of everybody at Springhill Hospice I congratulate them on their success and thank them for their continued support.”
