New civic offices proposals approved

Date published: 14 December 2010

Planning permission for new civic offices including a new public library and restaurant space on land at Smith Street/Milton Street in Rochdale has been granted.

The site is situated within the Town Centre East area and is bounded by the River Roch, Smith Street and Milton Street. It has an approximate area of 0.92ha and has been cleared for development.

The majority of the site was formerly used as a car park.

The construction of new civic offices will include a new public library and restaurant and cafe space.

The main entrance to the building would be from Smith Street and this entrance would provide access to all the proposed uses. A small parking area would be provided in the south eastern corner of the site, accessed from Milton Street.

The Council has received no letters of objection to the plans.
