Residents told ‘don’t take the risk’

This hard-hitting scene is part of the campaign to urge people not to take the risk of drink-driving

Heywood residents got to see the real consequences of drink driving today (Tuesday 14 December 2010) after a hard-hitting roadshow came to the town.

A staged car-crash scene with models posing as accident victims appeared outside Morrisons in Heywood as part of DriveSafe, Greater Manchester’s Casualty Reduction Partnership and System One Travel Cards, anti drink-driving campaign, ‘Don’t Take The Risk.’

Throughout the day, Rochdale’s road safety officers distributed informative leaflets while warning passers-by on the dangers of drink driving. System One Travelcards were also given away, allowing unlimited bus travel in Greater Manchester for one day.

Stuart Howarth, Rochdale’s Impact Partnership Road Safety Officer, said: “It is really important that people realise the effects of having just one drink can have. By doing these roadshows we can educate people on a one-to-one basis and help them understand they can never accurately calculate the amount of alcohol in their system.”
