New Year - Evening Youth Clubs and Saturday morning club As we come to the end of a really successful half term for our clubs, we are looking to give pupils and families even greater choice and involvement in the clubs in January, we are currently looking at providing transport for the clubs at evenings and on a Saturday morning.

6th Form students last week visited London which included visits to all the famous sites in London and an evening at the theatre watching `Mamma Mia`.

Rochdale AFC at Redwood School - members of Rochdale Football Club have been in school taking part in activities with pupils. It gives all our young people the chance to show their skills, enjoy the activities and also raise some funds by taking part in a penalty prize shoot out.

Christmas at Redwood – What an exciting week for all our young people with a variety of activities that took place! Including Xmas lunch, Coffee morning and Enterprise activities in the 6th form, Key Stage 3 Xmas party and disco`s for students in post 16.

Key Stage 4 students visited Salford University as part of the Key to Radio, run by Key 103. The Students of Salford University gave our Students information on courses and gave them a tour of the campus. This was then followed by a presentation hosted by one of Key 103s DJs. Students who go to Beatlab have made their own version of Shaking Stevens’s Merry Christmas Everyone. Many of our students have become wheelchair facilitators over the years, all have to be trained Jake and Adil are the most recent. Once a student has become a wheelchair facilitator, they can help bring other students into school from the buses in the morning and even help take students out in the event of a fire alarm. We here at Redwood are proud of the community spirit and camaraderie we have. The Redwood family relies heavily on people helping one another and co-operating with each other and this is just one way that this is shown around school.

Key Stage 3 news— We certainly made good use of the weather conditions with pupils playing in the snow, they even found time to build a snowman!. As part of English the topic is winter, pupils put on their warm clothes and headed for the sensory garden to write their names in colour in the snow last week. Year 8/9 Red visited the Manchester Christmas Markets, whilst Year 7 Blue participated in peer massage. Year 8/9 Blue haven’t enjoyed the fun as much as they have been working hard learning fractions, decimals and percentages. The pupil of the week goes to the whole of Key stage 3 for excellent behaviour and participation in Curriculum Day and the Christmas Fair.

The Personal Independence Programme (PIP) is going from strength to strength. Tracey’s snack and drinks group which includes Sohail and Craig, have been working really hard preparing a simple snack and making a hot drink. Tracey said “the lads are fantastic and such hard workers. They have been a pleasure to teach”. Sarah Home Management group have been learning about using the kitchen safely and making some simple meals. The group have made pizza and pancakes to name but a few. They have also made various drinks independently and have looked at handling knives and hot apparatus safely. This week Student of the Week is Hajira. Hajira is always polite and helpful to others especially at dinner times and in classes. Most Improved Student this week is Aisha. Aisha is becoming a lot more independent in textiles and in tutor times. She is becoming a lot more confident within 6th Form.
