Santas take part in festive fun run

Date published: 12 December 2010

The people of Rochdale donned Father Christmas outfits for a fun run around Hollingworth Lake this morning (Sunday 12 December 2010) in aid of the Springhill Hospice.

The Father Christmas fun run, now an annual event, was attended by almost 200 people keen to raise much needed funds for the hospice.

Those taking part met at the Hollingworth Lake visitors centre before being sent on their way by the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Zulfiqar Ali.

Mayor Ali, said: “The nice sunny weather has brought all the Santas out. They all seem to be at Hollingworth Lake. The bright red colours make everyone stand out especially the children. I hope everyone supports the hospice. At Christmas all good deeds count whether they are big or small.”

Dean Connaughton, Community Fundraiser for Springhill Hospice, said: “I would like thank everyone for coming today and braving the weather. This is one of our biggest Father Christmas fun runs yet and I hope we raise enough money to run the hospice for a day – which is £7,400.

“I would also like to thank our sponsors. Our main sponsor once again is Subway in Rochdale.”

All funds raised will go towards the running costs of the hospice.
