Thursday 9 December - Rochdale Borough Council services update 5.30pm

Date published: 10 December 2010

Gritting latest:

  • The weather forecast for Thursday evening and night indicates conditions will remain mild. As such, our highways team has decided there is no need for any gritting activity Thursday evening or during the early hours of Friday morning. We will continue to monitor conditions and take any action as necessary.
  • All main roads in the borough remain clear.
  • Norden centre footpaths were gritted Thursday morning.
  • High roads and wet spots (known areas where water runs onto the road) were gritted from 4.30am Thursday morning.

Bin collections latest:

  • Our bin collection crews have collected rubbish scheduled for collection Thursday as well as collecting more of the backlog of rubbish from streets in the borough where we've struggled to access due to poor conditions. We hope the improved weather conditions forecast for the end of this week will allow us to make further progress and clear the minority of streets that haven't been cleared.
  • If by Friday we don't manage to clear the backlog of rubbish scheduled for collection last week we will send relief collection crews out on Saturday. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.

My bin still hasn't been collected from last week and I've got others due for collection this week. What should I do?
Please continue to leave your bins out for collection until we've managed to collect your rubbish. If you have other bins due for collection please put them out as normal by 7am on the day of your collection.

Our relief collection crews will try every day this week to access your street until they've managed to collect outstanding rubbish. At the same time other collection crews will still be attempting to collect from other bins as scheduled.

My bins are full because the council hasn't been able to collect my rubbish. What should I do?
If your bins are full because we haven't been able to get to your street as scheduled due to the poor conditions we will collect bags of rubbish if they are tied tightly and placed neatly next to your bins. We don't normally do this, but under the circumstances, we will relax this rule to help residents who are struggling.

Household Waste Recycling Centres
If your rubbish is accumulating significantly because we've been unable to collect from your bins, you may wish to take it to one of the three household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) in the borough if you can. We do apologise for this inconvenience.

My bins are due for collection this week. Should I still put my bins out for collection as normal?
Yes. Please put out whatever bin is due for collection by 7am on the day of your scheduled collection. We will make every effort to collect your rubbish, but if we can't due to poor conditions, please leave it out until we've managed to collect.

Thank you once again for your patience.
