Fury as traffic warden parks in disabled space

Date published: 09 December 2010

A traffic warden working in Newhey yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 8 December 2010) parked in a disabled parking space – whilst looking to ticket others for parking in restricted areas.

The traffic warden was snapped by an annoyed resident at approximately 03.20pm on Railway Street.

Although there is snow on the ground paint on the road spelling DISABLED can be seen on the photograph.

A regular user of the disabled parking space was forced to park further away from their property.

John Chapman who took the photograph, said: “I appreciate that traffic wardens have a job to do but this man’s actions by parking in the disabled bay have made the problem worse and further alienated the traffic wardens in general.”

A spokesperson for the Impact Partnership who manages parking within the borough, and hold the contract with NSL Services Limited, Civil Enforcement Officers (CEO), said: “Civil Enforcement Officers are exempt from parking restrictions whilst carrying out their duties. However, we understand that this has caused inconvenience to a disabled resident and we have therefore highlighted to all our officers the need for vigilance when carrying out their duties. The enforcement around parking restrictions has been reduced in the last week as some of the restrictions are unable to be clearly seen due to the snow.”
