A Rochdale Cadet has raised £1635 for The Christie in a series of fundraising events.
Khizer Mohammed, 17, is a Cadet Nurse studying a Level 3 BTEC National Health Studies Course at Hopwood Hall College.
Khizer attends college three days a week and has a placement at the Rochdale Infirmary for two days.
Khizer told Rochdale Online about his work, “During the last couple of months I have been involved in participating in a wide variety of initiatives to raise funding for The Christies. I took part in many different activities including; organising a Public Fun Day at Wardleworth Community Centre, took part in an appeal at Bilal Jamia Mosque and I approached all my family and friends, who were extremely supportive of my charity work.”
Khizer continued: “When one of my close relatives, Bostan Ali, was diagnosed with cancer, I thought that I must do something positive, he was first admitted to Rochdale infirmary and then transferred to Manchester. Mr Ali's illness really motivated me to do some charity work. I thought I must do something constructive for The Christies and I have successfully raised £1635 for The Christies Cancer Hospital in Manchester.”
Khizer added: “Both my mum and dad were particularly pleased with my effort and enthusiasm. I am extremely grateful to all those who have assisted me in collecting money for charity. I hope Christies will continue to take good care of all the patients that come through their doors.”
The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Zulfiqar Ali, said: “I have known Khizer for a long time now and I know that he is a kind hearted person who enjoys working for the community. It is good to see that young people are getting involved with charity work.”
