Healthy Futures orders cardiology review

Date published: 02 December 2010

A review of cardiology services at Rochdale Infirmary has been ordered.

Sir Jonathan Asbridge from Healthy Futures has invited Professor Roger Boyle CBE, National Director for Heart Disease and Stroke to review the cardiology services.

The move comes following a NCAT (National Clinical Advisory Team) report which reads: “Cardiology services at the Rochdale Infirmary attract strong local support but are an example of a locally driven approach. They may need to be reviewed against the wider needs of the Trust population bearing in mind recent developments in intervention, the dependency on critical care support and future opportunities for prevention and rehabilitation. We would not make recommendations in this field but would value the advice of Dr Roger Boyle on the needs of the Trust population as a whole.”

The review aims to check that what was approved when Healthy Futures started is still relevant today because services have moved on since the initial plans were approved.

Sir Jonathan Asbridge said: “In light of the NCAT recommendations I have invited Professor Roger Boyle who has been a member of the Council of the British Cardiac Society since 1991 to review Cardiology services within Pennine Acute NHS Trust and the North East Sector of Greater Manchester.”

“The review will take place in early 2011. Once Professor Roger Boyle has completed his report, we will publicly share his recommendation.”
