Lib Dem Councillors who resigned to form own party

Date published: 02 December 2010

Rochdale Online understands that the Liberal Democrat Councillors who resigned are to form their own Independent party.

Seven Liberal Democrat Councillors resigned from the party because they were dissatisfied with the leadership.

Councillors Ted and Pat Flynn from Castleton, Councillor Peter Davison from Castleton, Councillor Doreen Brophy Lee from Heywood, Naim Mahmud from Kingsway, Barbara Todd and Greg Couzens from the Spotland & Falinge Ward left the party in a series of resignations last week.

The Councillors are due to meet tonight (Thursday 2 December 2010) to discuss the new party.

Castleton Councillor Pat Flynn told Rochdale Online:“We are going to meet but nothing has been decided. We don’t know who will be in the party or what we will be called.”
