IT suite launched at community centre

Date published: 02 December 2010

Wardleworth Community Centre’s IT suite has been officially opened by the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Zulfiqar Ali.

Around 60 people visited the centre, on South Street, to take a look around the IT suite in an opening session held on Saturday (27 November 2010).

75-year-old Eric Sutcliffe, of Ramsay Street, attended, when asked if he would like to have a go on the computer, he replied: “It looks awfully complicated”.

Staff members at the centre sat down with Mr Sutcliffe and within 15 minutes he began to enjoy himself.

At the open day many people signed up on to the online learning services.

Mayor Ali and Councillor Farooq Ahmed pledged their support for the centre.

Wardleworth Community Centre Association has been going strong in Wardleworth for over 25 years. Many children that had participated in activities held at the centre have been volunteers in their adult life at the centre. Many also feel very passionate about the centre and have stated that loosing the centre would mean loosing a vital part of Wardleworth’s history.

The IT equipment was purchased with grants from UK Online Centres.

The IT Suite is available on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12.30pm to 4.30pm for gents and Tuesdays and Thursdays 12.30pm to 4.30pm for ladies. Centre staff will be on hand to support those who don’t feel confident.
