Rochdale MEP says it is getting warmer

Date published: 29 November 2010

Britain may be experiencing a cold spell but a Rochdale Euro-MP says that global warming is still taking place.

Despite January being one of the coldest months in years, Chris Davies says that temperatures across the planet during the first 6 months of 2010 were the warmest on record.

The latest report from NASA, based on evidence from satellites and taking into account both air and sea temperatures, claims there has been no reduction in the warming trend that began in the 1970s.

Mr Davies says that people should not confuse day to day fluctuations in our weather with long term changes in the planet's climate.

The Liberal Democrat MEP commented: "Few of us will notice an increase in just 2 degrees in average temperatures, but the effect will be to accentuate the extremes, bringing drought and agricultural collapse to some regions and floods to others."
