Farmers Market is a hit with the community

Date published: 28 November 2010

The first Littleborough Farmers Market and Craft Fair was a huge hit with the community today (Sunday 28 November 2010).

Many gathered to browse the array of stalls spread across the Village Medical Centre’s car park on Peel Street and inside the Littleborough Conservative club.

Outside stalls included: meats, cheese, cakes and homemade jams and inside there was a variety of craft stalls giving people the chance to buy some extra special Christmas gifts.

The market, organised by LEAF (Littleborough Events and Associations Forum) has come from months of hard work and planning – it is now hoped a Farmers Market will be held every month.

Steve Lister from LEAF, said: “I am thrilled to bits. The stalls are doing a roaring trade. People are coming and enjoying themselves and the weather is a bonus.”

Mr Lister added: “We will definitely be doing it again. There is a great demand for it.”

Bobbie Moncaster, the Conservative Club Steward, added: “We have had a really good response. I am very pleased. It is also making people more aware of the club. Next time we will have stalls upstairs and downstairs. It really is what Littleborough needs because we don’t have a market at all.”

Councillor Janet Darnbrough was one of many people browsing the stalls, she was delighted with the event, she said: “It is great. It has brought everybody together.”

The aim now is to make the Farmers Market a regular event in the Littleborough calendar. Markets will run from March to October and it seems the general consensus is for them to run on the second Sunday of the month.
