NHS worker shines in staff awards

Date published: 27 November 2010

A Rochdale NHS worker has won an award for her dedication and support she provides to her colleagues, as part of NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale’s Going for Gold Stars awards.

Catherine Scott won the award because she goes over and above the requirements of her role as Project Support Officer, providing support to both the Acute Care team and the Mental Health team within NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale.

Ms Scott, who is based at London House on Oldham Road, has worked for the NHS for 7 years.  As well as providing administrative support to two busy teams, Catherine takes on additional project work and does this all within three working days.

Jeanette Leach, Acute Care Commissioning Manager, nominated Catherine on behalf of the team, “Catherine is the linchpin that holds everything together within our team.  She provides an excellent service to a number of team members and completes all of her work to the highest standard.  She has taken on additional responsibility over the last year, without complaint, and is an extremely valued member of the team. “

Ms Scott was delighted to win the award: “I really enjoy my work and try to do everything to the best of my ability because if I get something wrong, it can have a big impact on the rest of the team.  It’s not often that administration staff receive recognition in awards because we work behind the scenes, so I am delighted to have been nominated by my team and to win the award.”

Going for Gold Stars is a bi-monthly staff awards scheme that has been developed by NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale to recognise staff who provide an outstanding service or go the extra mile.  The awards are nominated by staff working within the Trust and judged by a panel of Directors and Staff Representatives.  The awards have been funded using Staff Lottery money, meaning it is separate funding from NHS HMRs overall budget.
