Still time to donate goods for hospice Christmas fair

Date published: 23 November 2010

Organisers of the Springhill Hospice Christmas Fair, which takes place at the Hospice on Sunday 5 December from 10.00am until 3.00pm, are asking that anybody wishing to donate goods should contact them as soon as possible.

Ian Jenkins, Fundraising Manager at the Hospice, said: “The success of our Fairs owes a great deal to the amount of items donated to them and, of course, the quality of those items. Last year we raised a phenomenal amount at both our Spring and Christmas Fairs and it never fails to amaze me how the local community really get behind the events. We are always looking for raffle or tombola prizes and especially any type of home-bake as that stall is one of the most popular at every Fair.

“May I remind everybody that changes in legislation have meant that we cannot accept second-hand electrical goods. In addition, we have made the decision to decline any books that are badly soiled for health reasons. Having said that, however, if anybody has goods they wish to donate that do not fall into the aforementioned categories, we will be only too happy to receive them.”

Anybody wishing to donate goods should take them direct to the Hospice on Broad Lane, or contact the Fundraising Office on 01706 649920 to arrange a convenient time for collection.

Mr Jenkins added: “As parking at the Hospice is at a premium on the day, visitors to the Fair should take advantage of the free Park and Ride facility operated by Heywood New Heart Community Transport. This regular bus service runs to and from Kingsway Park School (formerly Springhill High School) car park and the Hospice for the duration of the Fair. I must take this opportunity to thank both Heywood New Heart Community Transport and Kingsway Park School for continuing to provide this wonderful service for our Fairs as I know how much our visitors appreciate it.”

Entrance to the Fair, which will includes Santa’s Grotto and the usual selection of games, raffles, new and second-hand goods, is free but donations will gladly be received on the door.
