The brick smashed the glass and hit a 20-year-old man in the neck.

The man suffered minor injuries and the driver was uninjured.

Detective Constable Claire Rawcliffe, of Rochdale CID, said: "Without exaggeration this recklessly stupid act could have resulted in someone being killed.

"I want to appeal directly to the group the offender was with as I am sure there must have been someone there with the decency to know this was totally dangerous and irresponsible and I would urge them to do the right thing and call police."

Anyone with information is asked to call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4644, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111
