Restaurant celebrates 10th anniversary

Date published: 21 November 2010

A Newhey restaurant is celebrating its tenth anniversary this week.

The Cedar Tree, on Huddersfield Road was opened ten years ago by husband and wife team Andrew and Rachel Garner.

Tonight (Sunday 21 November 2010) the Cedar Tree’s regular customers gathered together for food, drink and celebrations.

Mrs Garner decided to open the restaurant following 13 years as a waitress and the lady who encouraged her to open the Cedar Tree, 81-year-old Mary Tickle, was there to celebrate with her tonight.

Mrs Garner runs the Cedar Tree and is the person customers are greeted by as they walk through the door. Mr Garner is the chef and is usually busy in the kitchen preparing meals.

Speaking about the past ten years Mrs Garner said: “It has been fabulous. We are in a good location too. When we first started we didn’t do any party nights but over the years we have tried different things and it has just taken off from there.”

Tonight the customers gathered in the restaurant, possibly reminiscing over their own special occasions held at the Cedar Tree over the years.

Mrs Garner said: “The aim of tonight is a nice informal gathering to celebrate the past ten years.”

Mrs Garner concluded: “I have made some really lovely friends here. The cliental is lovely. I can’t wait for the next ten years.”
