Health Event in Wardleworth

Date published: 19 November 2010

The importance of health to over 50s was the subject of discussion on the 12 November at Wardleworth Community Centre.

Health check-ups were freely available, including tests for cholesterol, bone density and diabetes.

Local men and women sat with health trainers, heart nurses and other health workers, who advised them on healthier lifestyles and told them about the support available from Rochdale’s Home Improvement Agency.

Director of Public Health, Dr Jane Rossini said: “We have chosen to hold the health days in areas where people aren't taking up the opportunity to access free screening for conditions like bowel and breast cancers. By holding days like this with a general focus on health, people can learn more about the screening while also gaining advice on leading a healthier lifestyle.

“If we can encourage people to make small changes to improve their lifestyles,” added Jane “this can help to ward off many conditions that are associated with smoking, lack of exercise and poor diet.”

This day was part of a series of healthy living and wellbeing events being held across the borough throughout November by NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (HMR).
