Interior design course gets the thumbs up

Date published: 18 November 2010

An interior design course on offer in Langley, Middleton, proved so popular the first time round that organisers have received funding to run it again.

The course is delivered by the Rochdale Housing Initiative in conjunction with Social Housing Provider Riverside and is funded by the New Learning in Deprived Communities Fund (NLDC).

The interior design project has received £10,050 of funding and will include the basic planning designs for the home, including: how to use color, illustrate your design and use of fabric samples and plan furniture layouts that fit by using scale drawings.

Mark Edwards from Rochdale Housing Initiative explained why the course is on offer: “It’s an introduction to learning using a subject (Interior Design) that is different and alternative that will hopefully be useful and interesting. It also has opportunity to lead onto a formal qualification.

“This is the second course we are running. Last year it was very popular and places filled up quickly. In addition, the students last year enjoyed it so much we enrolled them on the full 30 week diploma course with the National Design Academy and they achieved a level 3 qualification (equivalent to an A-Level). Many of the students have gone into further education through Hopwood Hall College and one has found a job.”

The 12 week course is free. One session a week is delivered by tutor Catherine Toolan and there will also be some IT lessons incorporated.  To find out more call Mark Edwards on 01706 750619.
